Over the years, CHBA-Edmonton Region member companies have contributed generously to help fight housing, youth and crime related problems affecting our area. Members continue to give generously in support of worthy causes both at home and away. Charitable giving has always been a major priority of the Canadian Home Builders' Association - Edmonton Region, but it was not until 2006 that a formal CHBA-ER Charity Fund was established.
In 2006, the CHBA-Edmonton Region partnered with the Inner City Housing Society to build, manage and maintain HomeBase - a 26 unit housing project for single, economically dependent, physically or mentally disabled adults. The goal was to raise $500,000 over a three year period.
Through the generous support and donation of the residential housing industry, we are proud to announce that the HomeBase housing project officially opened its doors January 1, 2010 and is now fully occupied.
Also in 2006, the Edmonton Region Homebuilders' Charity Funds, recognizing the shortage of homebuilder trades and the aging of current trades as a serious problem for our industry, endeavored to raise a further $500,000 over three years. These funds, administered by the Edmonton Community Foundation, would provide Homebuilder Trades Scholarships.
Once more, through the generous support of the industry, we are actively partnering with NAIT to provide funding for $22,500 in Trade Scholarships annually, FOREVER.
